Light! Sky!

(Goes With RSK Lesson 6)

Let there be light.
The first words spoken in this universe.

God’s words.
God’s character.

God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all.

God’s heart.

God saw that the light was good.

And the moment He created light, God separated it from the darkness. It’s a very rare occasion when God un-shines that light.

So Moses lifted his hand to the sky, and a deep darkness covered the entire land of Egypt for three days. During all that time, the people could not see each other, and no one moved. But there was light as usual where the people of Israel lived.

Don’t you love that: ‘There was light as usual’?
But the deep, long darkness for the Egyptians must have been terrifying.
Seventy-two hours was long enough to be very convincing: This wasn’t just a freak-of-nature, super-long night.
And, to make the point perfectly clear, God kept the light shining in that little spot of land, right in the middle of Egypt.
The Light Source can switch it on and off when and where He wants.

Which He did, once again, on the saddest, most solemn day on our planet.
God turned off the sun for three hours, right in the middle of the day.

That was a Very Dark Day.

In our space-time universe, since that first day when God separated the light from the darkness, there has been that ever-present reality, the stark contrast of light and dark, day and night. It’s a simple, constant metaphor in Scripture.

We see in the light.
We stumble in the dark.

When we know Him… when we listen to Him… when we stay in His presence… we know all we need to know. We see all we need to see.
Part of what He wants us to see—now—is His mighty hand at work in creation.

At the end of our Story, some will be in eternal darkness, with no light, and some will be in a place where there is no night. Ever! It’s ‘light as usual’ 24/7… forever.

The City has no need of sun or moon, for the glory of God illuminates the city, and the Lamb is its light… There will be no night there—no need for lamps or sun—because the Lord God will shine on them!

God would love to have all of us there. That’s what this Book is about.
