(Goes With RSK Lesson 9)
Animals are just a hoot, aren’t they?
Majestic… awesome… gorgeous… funny… cuddly… lovable… scary!
They make you want to pet them or hug them or buy them or turn around and run as fast as you can in the other direction!
They are an infinite resource for scientists and writers and photographers and advertisers and stuffed animal manufacturers.
The hardest thing about the RSK lesson on animals was leaving most of it out.
With billions of animals on the planet—how do you decide what not to say?
But this class isn’t just about ‘wow, that’s amazing. [There’s lots of time for that in other classes and years to come.] It’s about ‘wow, that’s amazing—and there’s only one good explanation for it.’
From the time God created the world, all people had to do was look around them, and they could see: ‘Wow! There had to be SOMEONE here before all this started, and He must be very powerful. There must be a God!’
Yes, the evidence keeps mounting!
Animals are right at the top of the Proof That Things Didn’t ‘Just Happen’ List!
As scientist Alvin Plantinga1 has noted, Things don’t look hopeful for Darwinian naturalists. ☺
Agnostic scientists are faced with a real dilemma:
The more they discover about our world, the more evidence there is of a very Creative Designer.
Looking at animals to see something about God is as old as Job.
God could have talked to Job about black holes and quantum physics; but He chose to direct Job’s attention to some simple things like hawks and ostriches and horses to help Job ‘see’ things about God that he hadn’t noticed before.
Good idea. You don’t have to look far to see plenty of evidence that someone had to have designed all this.
We teachers help kids put on their ‘faith glasses’ and start seeing things they wouldn’t notice on their own.
And what we see is not only how powerful and majestic and infinitely creative God is.
We see His love for beauty.
We see His infinite wisdom in His plans and designs.
And we see His very good heart. Let’s not miss that!
God’s first blessing is here. But it won’t be His last. It’s a major theme of The Book.
God has wonderful plans for everything He created.
Only good plans!
And He’s going to see that those plans happen.
