People! That’s Perfect!

(Goes With RSK Lesson 10)

When it comes to describing human beings, two extremes are common in current world views. We either think far more highly of ourselves than we should, making ‘gods’ of ourselves and leaving God out of the picture altogether! Or we fail to recognize our unique, God-given image, claiming that people are, after all, just well-evolved amoebas, mere specks with no meaning in a vast mysterious universe.

It isn’t surprising that people are so confused about who we are, where we came from, and where we’re going.
These are things that can’t be discovered in a science lab.
Thankfully, the God who planned and created everything has left us the record, so we can know!

And He is ‘on the record’ about this: His children are always on His heart.
He is not only Creator-God, staggering in His majesty and power and might.
He is a deeply personal God, heart and soul invested in His children.
The depth of His love and commitment and plans for the people He has created is unwavering.
Even in these early verses, we get glimpses of what’s ahead.
I hope your kids are filled with innocent joy and excitement as they hear this old familiar story.

As for me, the more I read this Book, the more humbled and awed I am about this one thing—how much God loves to do good things for the people He made!
The Apostle Paul expressed some of that wonder and worship as he looked back, thousands of years later, on the unfolding Story.

Yes, praise God! He had this great plan for us from the very beginning, even before He created the world! And He has worked out every detail of it just like He planned. It has given Him so much joy to do that! And God knew exactly what he was doing. He knows everything, and He wisely planned it all.

Here in Genesis 1, though, most of that is still to be revealed. Today’s story is just the beginning of the unfolding of God’s Eternal Reality, part of the perfect future He envisioned for these image bearers, standing in His brand new, perfect world, crowned with glory and honor, and put in charge of everything He made.
What an amazing Plan.
