God First!

(Goes With RSK Lesson 3)

I noted to RSK teachers early on: You’ll be reading through Genesis 1 several times with your kids in these early lessons.
It’s been read, meditated on, written about, translated and taught by God’s people countless times since it was first written.
I’ve certainly lost count of the times I’ve read it.
And I’m sure your kids have already heard and read it many times before.
How blessed they are!
Personally—I am more amazed by it and thankful for it now than ever.

The people of Israel used to stand at the entrance of their tents with their heads bowed when God was talking with Moses in the tent of meeting. [Exodus 33.]
What a sight that must have been: Nearly two million people standing silently outside their tents in the middle of the desert!
Some Christian traditions in other parts of the world stand for the entire worship service each week.
I love our local church where the pastor has us stand for the reading of the Word.

In this century—in this country—we have so many Bibles lying around our houses, stores and libraries, we might forget what an awesome privilege it is to hear what God has to say.
Maybe this week, you can start a new tradition in your house—linking back several thousand years: Stand together for the reading of Genesis 1.

Like you’re hearing it for the first time.
